My academic credentials reflect my robust commitment to education and public service. I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with a specialization in Postsecondary and Adult Education, which serves as the foundation of my educational background. In addition to this, I have earned a Post Master’s Certificate in Public Safety with a specialization in Criminal Justice and a Post Master's Certificate in Adult Education focused on College Teaching. My journey in academia has also led me to obtain a Master's in Public Administration with a concentration in Justice Administration, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Governmental Administration, which includes a minor in Legal Studies. I began my scholarly pursuits with an Associate of Applied Science in Legal Assisting.

In addition to my seven college degrees, I am proud to possess nearly three dozen certificates that cover a wide range of topics, showcasing my dedication to continuous professional development. • Instructor at NNPS for University Instructors: As an Instructor at NNPS for University Instructors, I am dedicated to crafting and delivering curricula focused on K-12 Reading Literacy, as well as supporting students in Algebra. My primary goal is to create an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.

  I actively advocate for policies that improve educational outcomes and strive to go beyond the minimum in my support for administrators, teachers, and staff within my organization. I believe that investing personally in classroom resources is vital, and I take pride in providing materials and incentives that facilitate effective learning experiences for my students.

 

• Former Magistrate for the City of Newport News: I have extensive experience as a former magistrate for the City of Newport News uniquely positions me as an invaluable asset to the School Board. Throughout my tenure, I was dedicated to ensuring public safety, which required making well-informed decisions based on careful assessments of probable cause. This meticulous attention to detail and commitment to rational decision-making will be instrumental in addressing the challenges facing our schools today.

  My understanding of the legal and social implications of education—or the lack thereof—allows me to grasp the critical link between academic achievement and overall community well-being. I have witnessed firsthand the consequences that arise when youth do not receive the education they deserve. I recognize that inadequate educational opportunities can lead to negative outcomes, perpetuating cycles of disadvantage that not only affect individuals but also the broader community.

• Former GED Instructor with NNPS: My previous experience as a former GED/Adult Education teacher highlights my expertise in creating specialized curricula aimed at adult learners. In this role, I successfully designed and implemented educational programs that addressed the diverse needs of my students, facilitating their journey to achieve GED certification. My focus on equipping learners with essential skills not only helped them reach their educational milestones but also empowered them to pursue further opportunities in their personal and professional lives. • Former Detention Specialist at Newport News Juvenile Detention Center: As a dedicated professional, my experience with the City of Newport News Juvenile Detention Center involved working closely with at-risk youth who had been adjudicated by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. In this role, I was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the juvenile correctional facility, particularly Post D, which is a mandatory six-month program.

  My primary focus was on ensuring the safety and well-being of the detainees while providing them with the guidance and support they needed. I developed strong interpersonal skills, engaging with young individuals from diverse backgrounds and gaining a deep understanding of their unique challenges and needs.

  To address behavioral issues and promote positive decision-making, I implemented various intervention programs. Building rapport with the youth was essential in fostering trust and encouraging their personal growth. My work not only concentrated on maintaining discipline but also emphasized providing educational and rehabilitative resources, which helped guide at-risk youth toward more positive futures.

• Former Special Education Teacher at East End Academy: As a former Special Education Teacher at East End Academy in Newport News, my experience was marked by a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for at-risk youth. I worked with students who were unable to attend their designated zone schools due to behavioral issues, which required me to navigate the complexities of their diverse needs. Many of these students faced challenges such as undiagnosed mood disorders, substance abuse issues, aggressive behaviors, and individualized education programs (IEPs).

  Throughout my career, I have been instrumental in training new officers and sharing my expertise and insights to foster a professional and supportive environment. I take pride in the positive impact I have made in young individuals' lives, guiding them toward a better future.

 

• Finally, as a parent of four children who graduated from NNPS, I have gained invaluable insights that greatly enhance my advocacy efforts for students, staff, and families. Having navigated the district with my children, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities that both students and educators encounter. My youngest child graduated from Achievable Dream Academy, which has allowed me to collaborate closely with teachers and administrators. Through this experience, I have witnessed firsthand their unwavering dedication and commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. This personal connection to the NNPS community equips me to effectively champion the needs and interests of all stakeholders within the district.
